AlertCops, the application that could save your life

This is a free mobile tool created by the Ministry of the Interior to facilitate direct communication with the Police and the Civil Guard.

ABC Sevilla · 21/03/2023

Contacting the State Security Forces and Corps is now simpler and more direct than ever, especially in emergency or urgent situations for citizen security. All this is thanks to a free mobile application created from the General Subdirectorate of Information Systems and Communications for Security (SGSICS), which depends on the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of Interior of Spain: AlertCops.

The main purpose of this tool is to improve and facilitate citizen access to certain public services related to the Police and Civil Guard.

In this way, any person, regardless of their language, origin or hearing or vocal disabilities, has the possibility of communicating to the State Security Forces and Corps an alert, information, data or news about any criminal act or security incident of which they are a victim or witness.

AlertCops is therefore a new complementary channel to contact the National Police and Civil Guard in a fast, direct, discreet and effective way, streamlining the protocol for requesting information and response, shortening response times, helping foreigners with a channel in their language and ensuring accessibility for all.

Share geolocation

Among the functions included is the ability to share our position with people we trust in order to feel safer. Any family member or friend that we have registered in the cell phone's contact list, as long as they also have AlertCops installed, can be our 'guardian'.

When the trusted person accepts the guardian request, the user becomes 'protected', so that the guardian will be able to see our latest locations on the application map.

There is also a similar subscription to public security services to periodically share our position with the State Security Forces and Corps, so that we can be easily located in case of emergency.

All this is particularly useful and effective for solving cases of possible lost or missing persons.

AlertCops is a free and very useful app to help in situations of #personasperdidas. Use it to geolocate and quickly inform @policia and @guardiacivil in any emergency situation. Download it and join the citizen collaboration network!

Distress buttons

On the other hand, there are several SOS buttons that can help us to contact quickly on exceptional occasions for our safety or that of the public. The first of these is SOS Guardians, with which help can be requested by simply pressing an icon on the main screen of the cell phone, with hardly any interaction. The alert will be forwarded to our guardians, and a ten-second audio recording will be attached.

The other is the SOS button for vulnerable groups. It offers enhanced protection for victims of gender-based violence and healthcare personnel. They will also be able to request help by clicking on an icon on the mobile screen. The nearest police forces will be instantly alerted for urgent attention, all sent with a ten-second audio attachment.
