Once again, the agents in charge of ensuring security during San Fermín are calling on the public to use the free mobile application AlertCops during the festivities. It is available for download on Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store), and the download is free.
The AlertCops application facilitates communication between citizens and the State Security Forces and Corps to report a criminal situation of which they are a victim or witness. It allows users to easily and intuitively send a geolocated alert to the police forces.
Through the application, citizens can send live photos and videos of compromising situations they are experiencing or witnessing. Additionally, by geolocating the alerts sent by users, it is possible to determine which patrol is closest and expedite the response of the security forces.
Furthermore, the system provides an online translation service and works in over 100 languages, making it possible for the millions of tourists who visit our country each year to use the application. Since its launch, the application has expanded its operation nationwide and has also added new features.
"SOS Button" for female victims of gender-based violence
One of the recently added features is the inclusion of an "SOS Button" designed for female victims of gender-based violence.
In case of emergency, they can discreetly request immediate assistance from the State Security Forces and Corps. To do so, they must press the "SOS Button" on their mobile phones at least five times in less than six seconds. Immediately, the system automatically sends the alert to the nearest police station. Additionally, it records 10 seconds of audio and attaches it to the alert so that the police officers can assess the severity of the situation.
Functioning of the application
"AlertCops" is available for download on Android (Play Store) and iOS (App Store), and the download is free.
After downloading the application, users only need to register their device as a new user by providing their personal information. Once the application is installed, users can generate an alert by selecting, through icons, the option that best describes the situation they want to report to the State Security Forces and Corps. By confirming the alert, the user's information and location will be sent to the National Police or Guardia Civil's Attention Center.
