Gender-based violence continues to be one of the greatest social and security challenges in Spain.
In this context, lawyer and expert in the field Ángeles Carmona has delivered a key message: “we cannot leave the assessment of a woman’s own risk in her own hands,” she stated on the news program 14 Horas Fin de Semana.
During her appearance on the program, Carmona emphasized that many victims are not fully aware of the real danger they are exposed to, especially during critical moments such as a breakup or when there are minor children involved. These situations significantly increase vulnerability and require active intervention from institutions and the immediate environment.
For this reason, a professional risk assessment and a coordinated response from the Security Forces and Corps, the judicial system, and support services are essential.
Carmona herself highlights the AlertCops app, which allows people in situations of risk to quickly and discreetly contact the State Security Forces and Corps. As she points out in the interview, having access to this type of resource can make a crucial difference in dangerous situations, especially when the victim is unable to report the abuse or needs immediate help.
