AlertCops at the 1st Police Training Day on procedures for searching for missing persons
The First Police Training Conference on procedures for searching for missing persons, held from 3 to 5 June in Madrid, brought together various police forces and emergency services to improve coordination and response to disappearances.
For three days, officers from the Municipal Police, Civil Guard, National Police and SAMUR Civil Protection took part in training activities and practical drills in different urban and natural environments.
One of the most representative drills involved searching for a 75-year-old man with Alzheimer's who had gone missing while walking his dog.
This exercise activated a realistic search operation that included canine units, drones, motorcycles, bicycles, cavalry, ambulances, DEPAS (Special Police Action Teams) and an Advanced Command Post. This deployment highlighted the importance of cooperation between agencies and the use of technology to optimise response times and ensure the safety of vulnerable people.
The day placed special emphasis on improving joint action protocols, strengthening inter-institutional collaboration and preparedness for real-life situations. The authorities highlighted their willingness to continue investing in training, infrastructure, advanced technology and artificial intelligence systems applied to public safety.
In this context, a key element was the participation of AlertCops, the Ministry of the Interior's mobile application that allows citizens to quickly and discreetly report risky situations or disappearances.
Their presence at the event was essential in familiarising officers with its operational use and integrating it as a support tool in real search operations.
AlertCops offers features such as an SOS button, direct chat with security forces and geolocation sharing, enabling emergency devices to be activated more quickly. In addition, during the training, commanders and operatives were trained in the use of these tools, reinforcing their integration into coordination centres.
This training day is also in line with the objectives of the Strategic Plan on Missing Persons, which seeks to strengthen police and technological capabilities in responding to disappearances. The active inclusion of AlertCops demonstrates how digital innovation can make a difference in critical situations, connecting citizens and law enforcement agencies in real time.
The experience was a clear example of how training, technology and citizen cooperation combine to provide a more efficient and humane response to cases of disappearance.
